A Levels

This course is designed for students wishing to take 2 or 3 A levels in one academic year (September – June). Students are taught in small classes and can take advantage of the excellent resources, including wireless internet access. Subjects offered are Mathematics, Physics and Chinese (other languages and subjects are offered, dependent on availability). Staff offer expert UCAS advice and help arrange university visits. St. George’s offers a weekly social programme including trips to London, Brighton, Canterbury, bowling and cinema.

Entry Requirements

Min 4.5 IELTS, good Maths GCSE or equivalent.

Physics

The course is designed to:

  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding in Physics and, where appropriate, the applications of Physics, and the skills needed for the use of this in new and changing situations.
  • Develop and understanding of the link between theory and experiment.
  • Appreciate how Physics has developed and is used in present day society.
  • Show the importance of Physics as a human endeavour, which interacts with social, philosophical, economic and industrial matters.
  • Sustain and develop an enjoyment of, and interest in, Physics
  • Develop suitable practical skills in planning, implementing, analysing and drawing conclusions, and in evaluating experimental work.
  • Recognise the quantitative nature of Physics and understand how mathematical expressions relate to physical principles.

Maths

Advanced Supplementary Options:

  • A one year Advanced Supplementary (AS) qualification studying Syllabus Number 8371 which requires certification in 2 Core Mathematics modules (C1 & C2) and 1 optional module chosen from Mechanics (M1), Statistics (S1) or Decision Mathematics (D1). Success in these studies leads to an ‘AS’ in Mathematics.
  • A one year AS qualifications studying Syllabus Number 8372 which requires certification in Further Pure Mathematic 1 and two modules from Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Mathematics. Success in these studies leads to an ‘AS’ in Further Mathematics.
  • A one year AS qualification studying Syllabus Number 8373 which requires certification in 3 Core Mathematics Papers (C1, C2 & C3), with no other papers required. Success in these studies leads to an ‘AS’ in Pure Mathematics.

Modern Languages

Languages are the centrepiece of the international ethos of St George’s.

The range of languages we are able to offer is extensive, thanks to a team of 14 native speaker language teachers offering Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced courses in the following languages.
